Winter Wonderland Wedding
January 26, 2016

Nothing is more beautiful than a winter wedding!

Our bride, Rachel looked absolutely stunning walking down the Isle to start the next chapter of her life with the man of her dreams.

To create this look on Rachel, I started with priming and setting her face and eyes to ensure an extra long staying power. Once Rachel was primed I started with her eyes. I used Kjaer Weis eye shadow in cloud nine to give her a solid base followed by onyx and wisdom to create a soft yet smoky finish. Her eyes were finished with black mascara and some faux lashes to add some extra length and volume. Next was to give her skin a smooth and matte finish by using Ilia vivid foundation and concealer. To brighten up her cheeks I used a soft pink blush called peony and Jennie Fresa Bronzer in st. barts. For Rachel’s lip we wanted something warm and decided to use Ilia lipstick, funnel of love topped with Jennie Fresa Diamond Gloss for some added shine.

Health, Love & Beauty in 2016
December 30, 2015

Dearest Friends,

There is so much beauty to be found in the start of new year. Out with the old, in with the new. A chance to learn from the past and make changes for the future. I have always loved the idea of a fresh start- whether you’re working on rekindling a relationship, cleaning out your closet, trying out a new look or setting goals in your career or family life, it’s both liberating and exciting to have a clean slate in front of you.

2015 was undoubtedly a game changing year for us at our new location in downtown Madison, CT. We couldn’t be happier or more grateful to all who supported us this past year. We learned a great deal about operating a retail store and loved every minute of meeting so many new women. It was an amazing year to say the least but it wasn’t always easy. We had some growing pains and made the necessary changes to meet the demands of our expanding business- enter my amazing staff! Finding a tribe of individuals who share my vision and passion has made the biggest impact on our success. We hit bumps in the road as you might expect, but we kept going, always keeping the happiness of you, our clients, a priority. We saw enormous growth in our business, but more importantly, we got serious about safe beauty.

After years of working in cosmetics, I realized that I was slathering chemical laden beauty products on myself and wondered if there was a way to look good + feel good without compromising my health? This quest led me on a year long mission to discover the BEST in non-toxic beauty. Today, I’m not only thrilled to share these luxurious, effective and noteworthy brands with my clients and friends at my Madison boutique (and my on-line store), I’m also proud to have a better understanding of the truth behind “green beauty” and the harmful ingredients found in most cosmetics. My goal for 2016 is to change the way you think about the products you use on your face and body because you deserve to be healthy and beautiful.

In closing, we have many exciting changes coming up in the new year including growing our curated collection of natural beauty brands. Additionally, we are launching a new on-line booking platform and POS system through MindBody software. This update will enhance your client experience with us by allowing you to gain rewards, book your appointment through our very own app and give you access to your client profile at any time. Lastly, we are working on creating tutorial videos so you can learn our beauty tips right from home. Thank you in advance for your patience and support while we make these changes (new software is always a little scary!) and thank you for trusting us to lead you in the direction of a healthier, happy and more beautiful life!

Cheers to peace, love & beauty in 2016!

Much love,

Best Brows for your Face Shape
April 25, 2016

The perfect brow shape accentuates your best features and provides a youthful, well rested look.  The dimensions of your face determine the right arches to open up your eye and improve your facial symmetry. Here’s a look at classic face shapes to help you find your perfect arch.

A balanced, straight across eyebrow accentuates the proportions of this face shape. Extending the brow tail will highlight horizontal features, while the starting point of the brow will exaggerate the set of your nose, so be sure to find the right beginning and end points for your features.

Avoid angular brows as your jawline already provides this definition to your face shape.  Instead, opt for a softly groomed brow that illuminates your temples and pronounces your cheekbones.  If you are fair, a brow tint will provide an immediate impact.

A strong arch distinguishes the cheekbones and widens the eye to give a round face a more well-defined bone structure.  Adding angularity to the end of the brows creates balance.

A petite chin and jawline draws greater emphasis to the upper features of the face.  A tightly kept brow- not too thin or too thick- will create the right balance.

What face shape do you have?!  I hope you found this post helpful.  I would love to hear from you, please feel free to leave your comments and questions below.

Natural Bridal Beauty
October 2, 2015

This bridal photo shoot may quite possibly be my all time favorite.  Not only did I get to work with top notch wedding vendors, I was able to create my absolute favorite style of beauty.  Talk about the epitome of natural beauty–this is it bridal beauties. Style Me Pretty said is best, “in the world of gorgeous inspiration, this stunning, preppy shoot reigns supreme.”

To create the bride’s look, I started with her eyebrows.  I trimmed, shaped and filled in the brows with a soft blonde brow powder.  Then, set with clear gel to ensure it stayed put.  Her face and eyes were primed and I started with her eye makeup first.  I used a sheer pink shadow on her lids and a chocolate brown shadow liner on the top with a deep plum shadow on the bottom.  Eyes were finished with mascara and a few individual false lashes.  Next, her skin was smoothed out using a matte foundation.  I used concealer only where needed; under eyes and to cover a few blemishes.  She was set with a powder and a sheer swipe of pink blush to the cheeks created a soft and romantic look.  Her lip color is brighter than it appears in the photos.  I used a berry lip stain topped with a pink gloss.

Make the Switch to Clean Beauty
October 2, 2015

1938: The last time the U.S. passed a cosmetics law

1,300 +: Number of ingredients in cosmetics banned or restricted in Europe.

11: Number of ingredients prohibited or restricted by the FDA.

We would like to change the way people think about the ingredients they use on their face and body.  So many of us put great effort into living a healthy lifestyle- we eat our veggies from the farm, we practice yoga, we drink our smoothies…..why stop there?!  Our skin is our largest organ and we feel it deserves the same attention.

My personal journey began several months ago when I realized that after years of slathering chemical-laden products on my face and body, there IS a healthier way to achieve that same pretty, polished and youthful look we all desire.  I started researching and was pleasantly surprised by the power of the green beauty movement and also horrified at the lack of regulations here in the US.  My quest, however, has led me to discover quite a few truly amazing, high-performing beauty brands along the way.  I’m thrilled to share them with you at our store in Madison CT and in our on-line shop.

Now it has become my mission to bring other beauty-seeking and health-conscious beauties like you a welcoming beauty destination filled with only the finest in clean beauty.

Here are my 5 steps for making the switch to Clean Beauty:

  1. Simplify your beauty products and learn which ingredients to avoid. (see my top 10 list below).
  2. Get informed. Download 2 helpful resources that will help you determine the safety of your products before you buy them: ThinkDirty and SkinDeep
  3. DIY: There are many products that can be made right at home.  If you’re on a budget or if you like to get crafty, check out Mountain Rose Herbs on-line.
  4. Prioritize. It can be very overwhelming to switch all of your personal care products all at once so don’t try it!  Start with your skincare (cleanser and moisturizer).  Then, your makeup (foundation and lipstick).  Next, body care: change your soap and deodorant. Hair care and other household items can come later.
  5. Stay in the know.  Follow us on Instagram where I will launching my 7 Day Beauty Detox twice a year (January & July) to help you make the switch to healthier living.

10 Chemicals of Concern:  Learn more at The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics

1,4 Dioxane
Not listed on ingredient labels, 1,4-dioxane is a contaminant linked to cancer found in products that create suds, such as shampoo and liquid soap.

A chemical linked to cancer, benzophenone is used in cosmetics such as lip balm and nail polish to protect the products from UV light.

Butylated Compounds (BHA)
Concerns about organ-system toxicity and endocrine disruption led the European Union to prohibit the preservative butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) from cosmetics

Ethanolamine Compounds (MEA, DEA & TEA)
Diethanolamine (DEA) is a type of ethanolamines, chemicals widely used in cosmetics. The European Union prohibits DEA in cosmetics due to concerns about formation of carcinogenic nitrosamines.

Cancer-causing formaldehyde and formaldehyde-releasing preservatives are often found in shampoos and liquid baby soaps.

Parabens are preservatives used in a wide variety of personal care products. These endocrine-disrupting chemicals can be absorbed through skin, blood and the digestive system.

Triclosan, which has been linked to hormone disruption and antibiotic resistance, can be found in soaps, detergents, toothpastes, deodorants, and more.

Found in nail polish and hair dyes, toluene is restricted for use in the European Union, but not in the United States.

Banned from cosmetics in the European Union, phthalates are widely used in color cosmetics, fragranced lotions, body washes and other products sold in the United States.

An endocrine disruptor that mimics estrogen, octinoxate is found in hair color products and shampoos, sunscreen, lipstick, nail polish, skin creams

Engagement Photo Shoot on Elihu Island by Ali & Julie Photography
July 29, 2015

Katie was a dream to work with. From the moment we met we connected and I was excited to help her create the most natural, flawless look for her engagement photo shoot with Ali & Julie photography.

For her makeup, I created a simple but ethereal look using a palette of natural tone hues. Her skin was nearly perfect so I applied Tinted Moisturizer all-over with just a hint of color to her cheeks. Katie brought in her own lashes and which we enhanced with a fine line of “Coffee Bean” shadow liner. We finished her look with “Tenderness” lipstick; a soft barely-there shimmery pink.
